Monday Music Mix

Happy Monday Guys! So I've just started at a new job and am about to start up this wicked internship so I haven't kept to my schedule for this blog. Real life has a way of creeping up on you like that. Now that everything is starting to settle and I am figuring out my weekly routine, I will be right back at it. I made a promise to myself and I am going to keep it. Anyways, onward with the music.

Sit back. Relax. And Enjoy.

Macklemore "Hold Your Head Up"

Let me start off by saying that I am not really much for the Grammy's, but I do have to say that I'm happy for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Apparently they racked up a lot of Grammy's and married a bunch of couples during their set. Who else can say that they've done that? So in honour of their big night, I present the song that introduced me to Macklemore. I first heard this song a few years ago and had originally thought it was a Matisyahu song. But a friend finally corrected me and told me his name and that I should check him out since he was a fellow pacific-north westerner. After hearing more, the rest was history.... ; )

Matisyahu "Searching"

I had to include Matisyahu in this week's mix because a) this song has straight been on repeat in my place and b) this song epitomized my music experience as a high schooler. (Plus I mentioned him above, so he deserved a shout out). Anyway, anyone familiar with the Fifa Football games knows that they churn out some fantastic soundtracks and this song is no exception. So I guess this would be point c) it's a song from one of my favourite game's soundtracks. Score!

Jesse Boykins III "The Perfect Blues"

Before I say anything else, go click on the link above and watch the music video for this song...
...
...Did you watch it? If you did, then you'll understand that words cannot describe this song. If you didn't then go watch it right now!

James Blake "Bills Bills Bills" (Destiny's Child)

90's girl-band nostalgia meets new age house chill r&b. I swear I never know how to describe this boy. His style is truly out of this world and you won't find anyone else like him. Period. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Ladi6 "Ikarus"

There are just some songs that become the soundtrack for your life. This is one of them. I play this song on repeat in the background of all my daily happenings; be it while I'm baking or brushing my teeth. It's multi-faceted and versatile and makes you feel like your life could be an irl Youtube vlog.

Monday Music Mix

Happy Monday Guys! Hope y'all enjoy this little mix of my top listens for this past week.

*You're only gonna get this warning once; my music tastes are all over the place so expect anything from Tuvan Throat Singing to Old School Blues. Anything goes here.*

Anyways, enjoy!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Are you one of the many who wish that Lauryn Hill had dropped another LP as beautifully crafted as "Miseducation"? Well, I've got a present for y'all; Akua Naru. While she's not a songstress in the strictest sense (she's a rapper) this track will definitely satisfy your craving.
You're welcome ; )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This track being on this list is by and large influenced by my running/workout regiment. Sometimes, you just need that no nonsense, playful, heavy beat to pound you out through the 10th mile of your 12 mile run. This is that song. I play this when I start hitting The Wall and want to stop. But nuh-uh you're not allowed to quit, this song won't let you. Check it out if you are looking for a killer song to add to your workout mix.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you'll probably see this channel pop up a lot in my mixes. Majestic Casual is my go to channel for all occasions. When I want to chill out with friends, it's Majestic Casual. When I want to pre-game and get hyped, it's Majestic Casual. When I wake up in the morning and need that extra push, it's Majestic Casual. It really is my everything with it's a hodge-podge of remixes, house, and everything in between. Mar brings it though in this jazzy house mix you'll definitely want to check out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Old School Underground Hip Hop in 2013. Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae will always hold that special place in my heart. This song embodies everything that I love about Hip Hop but you'll just have to listen to understand.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

XXYYXX, just what can I say. No matter how many times I've tried to pronounce this dude's name (zerrr-eeeee-zazzaahh...) I will never get over his music. DMT is that song you crank up during that long windy stretch of a road trip where it's just you, your car, and a whole bunch of trees blowing past. It's perfection.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So this last one isn't a song by itself, but an entire mix. I just had to add it though because of all the music on the list for this week, this has been replayed the most. This is my gotta get sh*t done music. Well actually, it's my gotta get a lot of sh*t done and I know imma be at it for a while music. The mix being an hour long is perfect for this. Plus, it features a picture from My Neighbor Totoro so what more can you love. Trip Hop, Acid Jazz, and a whole hour of feels will ensue.
Enjoy.

--------------------------------------------------------
What are some of the songs you've been putting on repeat lately? I'm always looking for new music.

New Years Resolution

 { New Year's Resolution }

I'm not typically the type to set New Years Resolutions. It has never made sense to me to only sit down and take stock of your life expectations and goals once a year. Seriously, do you want to cram 1 year/12 months/365 days worth of goals into one session? That's not only a lot of pressure to put on yourself but is also a little ridiculous and unattainable. But this year, I found, was different. I found myself excited and hopeful for a New Year so that I could shuck off the dead shell of 2013 and refresh myself. Maybe it's because I'm getting old(er), or because I recently graduated college and am now in that weird vortex of life somewhere between still living in the fantasy la-la land of college and shit getting real in the land of paying bills.

I don't really know, but I do know that 2013 was the year of major life changes. I graduated from Uni. I moved back home after 4 years away. I lost some of my closest friendships in 1 devastating blow. I got a job. I (stupidly) left that job for another job. I applied for a study abroad program. I became a runner. And most importantly I lost my mojo. I really really lost my mojo/spark/hootspa/whatever you like to call it.

I was drifting along without any real purpose. And it makes me miss the early college version of myself that would never sleep, worked herself to the bone in order to achieve whatever it was she had set her mind to (at the time it had been proving that one could maintain a 4.0 GPA, party like a rockstar 24/7, and eat any and all free food made available to her without gaining weight) as well as not only have her life goals figured out but fully understand what motivated her and inspired her to machine on. Where did this mythical beast go? And how can I find her?

In some regards I feel like these are natural questions to ask yourself as you get older but I'm only 22 and I have no reason to be looking back and trying to find my lost 'mojo'. I want it back now and 2014 is my year to do so. So in honor of the New Year, this is my resolution; I want to find my inspiration again. What inspires me to be me and what drives me towards my goals and aspirations. I already know what I want to do, I've known that for quite some time. But for a while there, I'd lost touch with why I want to do these things and that is my pet project of the year.

{ Why? }
This resolution ultimately boils down to me searching for the answer to this question. 2013 was the year of figuring out exactly What I wanted out of life so 2014 will be my year of figuring out the Why.

Is anyone else finding themselves in this same type of rut? Feel free to leave a comment (that way we can commiserate together ; )

Welcome

So today felt like the perfect day to post this. I've received some bad news and some good news and am snowed in for the next couple of days so without any other means of letting off steam, why not do it here? So hello there and welcome to my little corner of the internet.

Hope you enjoy!
